Cooper and Garret Phillips both will compete today at the annual event, which takes place at Kemper Arena in Kansas City, Mo.

This year marks the third time Cooper, a fourth-grader at Tonganoxie Elementary School, will compete at the event. He will be in two roping events as well as steer riding.

Garret, a sixth-grader at Tonganoxie Middle School will compete in team roping.
