Chieftains’ boys win cross country title
Thanks in part to a first-place finish by Patrick Rachford, the Tonganoxie High boys cross country team won the team title at the Atchison County Invite on Thursday in Effingham.
Rachford’s time of 18:38 in the 5K race was tops but the Chieftains had three runners in the top five as Caleb Himpel finished third and Dalton Harrington took fifth. What’s more, THS had five of the top nine times as Keith Slater placed eighth and Brady Field was ninth.
Tonganoxie’s girls had a successful outing, as well. They finished second in the team standings. Emily Soetaert took fourth, while Alex Hauk was sixth.
The cross country runners are off until Sept. 21, when they play host to the Tonganoxie Invitational.
