TMS football teams split

A week after settling for a tie, Tonganoxie Middle School’s eighth-grade football team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday.

The Warriors shut out Monticello Trails on the road, 14-0.

Jared Somers ran for one score and threw for another, hitting Carl Hecht for a touchdown pass. Garret Martin scored on a two-point conversion for Tonganoxie (1-0-1).

The TMS seventh-graders suffered their first loss, a 26-14 setback at home, to Monticello Trails.

Lucas Skaggs and Grant Elston scored for the Warriors (1-1) and Elston added a two-point conversion.

The TMS teams play Basehor-Linwood on Tuesday. Seventh grade will be at Linwood and the eighth grade will be at home.
