McLouth softball remains undefeated

By Mirror Staff Reports - | Apr 8, 2011

McLouth High senior pitcher Kaley Patterson threw her third straight no-hitter on Thursday and the Bulldogs swept a doubleheader at Oskaloosa to remain unbeaten this season.

MHS picked up a 13-0, five-inning victory in Game 1 and prevailed, 11-3, in Game 2 to bring its record to 8-0.

Patterson struck out 11 Bears batters while extending her hitless innings streak to 24 (she last gave up a hit in the second inning of McLouth’s season opener). Oskaloosa’s lone base runner in the romp reached on an error.

Kendra Leach threw all seven innings for the Bulldogs in the eight-run victory, only allowed one earned run and struck out eight.

In the sweep of rival Oskaloosa, Leach was perfect at the plate, going 7-for-7 and reaching base eight times.

Jessie Troupe slugged her way to a 5-for-7 night with five doubles and five RBI.

Patterson, meanwhile, was 5-for-7 and drove in three runs.

Konner Patterson hit her first home run of the year, drove in four and finished 3-for-8 at the plate.

With a 10-day break before McLouth’s next game, a 4:30 p.m. April 18 home twinbill with Atchison County, MHS coach Ballard Patterson said his team will be working on specific situations during the down time.

“We’ve got some regrouping we need to do,” he said.

Specifically, Ballard said the Bulldogs have been committing too many errors when Leach is pitching (they had three on Thursday at OHS) and they need to put a stop to that trend.

“When they (opponents) do hit Kendra, they hit her hard,” the coach said, explaining Leach throws harder than Kaley Patterson, who specializes in junk pitches and placement, rather than speed.
