Soph. competes at state piano event
A Tonganoxie High School sophomore received a “II” rating at the KSHSAA state piano festival this past weekend at Tabor College in Hillsboro.
Jessica Sommers, a sophomore, is thought to be the first THS student to participate at the state level, said THS instructor Tom Gifford.
She received a “I” rating at regionals Feb. 5 at Baker University in Baldwin City, a rating that advanced her to state.
“I think that is outstanding because she’s being compared to the best Kansas has to offer,” Gifford said. “Also, she’s only a sophomore and this was her first time at both competitions. She gained a lot of priceless experience and represented us proudly.”
She performed “Waltz Op. 12, No. 2” by Edvard Grieg.
