Marching band storms Texas: Tonganoxie High School Marching Chieftains last week brought home three trophies from Dallas and an open invitation to more national events. (The other events included the Las Vegas Bowl and the Kentucky Derby parade.) “Isn’t that exciting?” band director Charles Van Middlesworth said. “I mean, how cool is that? It just blows me away.” (The band had grown from 20 members three years before to nearly 100.)

For Leavenworth County to attract new businesses, it must first focus on the “products” it can offer a company, Kansas Board of Regents chairman Gary Sherrer told county leaders Friday. And perhaps the most important of those products, he said, is a quality education system.
