State awarded scenic byways grant funding

The Kansas Byways program has been awarded a $220,000 grant from the Federal Highway Administration to assist local byway committees in telling their stories. The grant is part of the FHWA’s National Scenic Byways Program, which recognizes and provides funding for roads designated either locally or nationally as having outstanding scenic, historic, cultural, natural, recreational and archaeological qualities.

Susan Quisenberry, a master gardener since 1999, heads up the crew that’s planting, weeding, mulching and watering to bring the land up to shape. Frances Jeannin, Pat and Michelle Jeannin and Ashley flew May 25 to Savannah, Ga., to visit Amber Jeannin, who attends Savannah College of Arts and Design. They went to Charleston, S.C., and the beach at the Atlantic Ocean. They returned home Thursday. Amber finished school Friday and now is home for the summer.

A long line at the swimming pool just the other day. The water had no chance to warm up. So those “small fries” will jump in, soon hop right back out, shivering and shaking. They then wrap up in a towel. A few minutes later, they’re right back in. As I recall it took about three of such tune-ups.
