Several special activities have been planned for Saturday at Old Jefferson Town in Oskaloosa, during the Old Settler’s weekend. Enjoy the day: Pam Jones, of Tonganoxie, will demonstrate the fascinating process of spinning wool. She will be located on the boardwalk between 10 and noon.
Julie Blichmann, digital photographer from Oskaloosa, will be the featured artist from 1-4 p.m. at the John Steuart Curry Boyhood Home and Museum. Julie’s specialty is equine photography.
Lynn Sheppard, an enthusiastic retired history teacher, will be on the grounds from 2-4 p.m. He will be dressed as a cowboy, sharing historical and contemporary accounts of Kansas, including some Native American folklore. Sheppard is said to inspire his audience, telling stories from the Old West using “True Tales of Old Time Kansas” as a main source. He has visited many classrooms, presenting at “Read Across America” in area schools. He uses an interactive approach with his storytelling, keeping the audience — young and old — entertained and interested.
McLouth Public Library’s Book Discussion Group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, June 27. For more information, please call (913) 796-2225.
