THS welcomes back alumni at banquet
Tonganoxie High School had its 76th annual Alumni Banquet on May 7 at the Chieftain Room on the Tonganoxie High School campus.
Playing host to the event was the 1986 graduating class, which was celebrating its 25th graduation anniversary. The 1961 graduating class members, who were celebrating their 50-year graduation anniversary, were their special guests.
John Scott welcomed the guests of all classes to officially begin the event. Tim Dykes then gave the invocation before the guests enjoyed a prime rib buffet catered by Santa Fe Depot Diner of Leavenworth.
After dinner, John Scott took a roll call of the classes and gave a special greeting to the class of 2011. Kathy Plake Caenen greeted the class of 1986 and then a moment of silence was held as a memorial to the three deceased members of the class of 1986, Vicki Groshong, Lori Meadows and Sandra Vargas.
The Alumni Association had a brief meeting during which the recipients of two $1,000 scholarships were announced. This year's recipients were Jacob Cannon and Alexis Faherty, with Taylor Lawson being selected as alternate. Each of the recipients will receive checks made out to the school of their choice to help with their expenses.
After the banquet, there was a reception at Bichelmeyer's Steakhouse where alumni from all classes were invited to go to enjoy the rest of their evening.
