State football playoffs down to final weeks
State football continues this week with semifinals in all but two classes — state championships will be decided Saturday for both 8-man divisions.
In Class 6A, Olathe East (9-2) plays Olathe South (10-1) Friday in Olathe, while Wichita Heights (11-0) takes on Derby (8-3) in Derby. Winners will advance to the state championship to be played at 1 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 26 at Washburn University’s Yager Stadium in Topeka.
In Class 5A, Blue Valley (10-1) meets Gardner-Edgerton (8-3) in Stillwell and Wichita’s Bishop Carroll (10-1) takes on Hutchinson (9-2) in the other semifinal game. The championship will be 1 p.m. Nov. 26 at Welch Stadium in Emporia.
Class 4A semifinals are Paola (11-1) at Eudora (11-1) and Rose Hill (11-1) at Hayden (11-1) in Topeka. Championship: 1 p.m. Nov. 26 at Salina Central High School Stadium in Salina.
Class 3A semifinals are Rock Creek (9-3) at Silver Lake (11-1) and Conway Springs (11-1) at Garden Plain (11-1). Winners meet at 1 p.m. Nov. 26 at Hutchinson’s Gowan Stadium.
In Class 2-1A, Centralia (8-3) heads south to take on Pittsburg-Colgan in Pittsburg in one semifinal game and LaCrosse (11-0) is at Plainville (10-1) in the other. The championship is Nov. 26 at Fort Hays State’s Lewis Stadium in Hays.
In eight-man football, championships are decided a week earlier. In Division I, Madison (12-0) takes on South Gray (11-0) at 11 a.m. Saturday at Fischer Field in Newton.
In Division II, Baileyville B&B (11-0) meets Thunder Ridge (12-0) at 3 p.m. Saturday at Fischer Field.
