New Tonganoxie group focused on promoting safe and healthy community needs assistance at Spooktacular

By Staff | Oct 19, 2011

T3, a newly formed group focused on promoting a safe and healthy community, will be meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the Tonganoxie City Council Chambers, 321 Delaware St.

T3, which stands for Transforming Tonganoxie Together, has this mission statement: “creating solutions through empowerment, education and community involvement to decrease destructive behaviors.”

The group welcomes anyone in the community to join. It currently is seeking volunteers to assist with handing out candy and information at the Tonganoxie Police Department for the Spooktacular Halloween event the evening of Friday, Oct. 28.

The group also is working to establish safe houses in the community — designated residences and businesses where youths can go in case of emergency. People volunteering their homes and businesses as safe houses then contact the authorities to provide medical or other assistance. Volunteers are subject to background checks and other conditions.

To be considered as a safe house provider, contact police Chief Jeff Brandau at (913) 369-3754. For more information about T3, contact Tonganoxie Middle School principal Jill Dickerson at (913) 845-2627.
