With a 25-21, 25-22, 23-25, 25-20 victory, the Chieftains improved to 2-1 in Kaw Valley League play.

THS (9-4) began what will be a busy week with a key road win thanks to a balanced attack. Tonganoxie had a different stat leader in each category: Senior libero Megan Hummelgaard had 36 digs, senior setter Sagan Scates finished with 33 assists, junior Jenny Whitledge led the team with 20 kills, senior Brooklyn Kerbaugh recorded a team-high seven blocks and senior Kailan Kuzmic served up six aces.

Depending on how things shake out this week, the Chieftains could play in as many as nine more matches. At 5 p.m. Thursday, THS has a home quadrangular with visiting Jeff West, Pleasant Ridge and Immaculata. Then, beginning at 8 a.m. Saturday, the volleyball team will play host to the Tonganoxie Invitational.

The Chieftains’ home tournament could provide some challenging matches. Olathe East, ranked No. 4 in Class 6A by the Kansas Volleyball Association, and Gardner-Edgerton, No. 5 in 5A, are part of the field, as is Ottawa, a team that defeated THS twice at the Rossville Invitational.
