Support group for pre-natal and nursing mothers to be offered in Tonganoxie
A new support group in Tonganoxie will be available to pre-natal and nursing mothers.
Pre-natal and nursing moms from Leavenworth and surrounding counties are invited to attend Mommy to Mommy Tonganoxie, a new, free, monthly support group designed to provide, information, education, and encouragement for both new and experienced nursing moms, as well as for moms-to-be who may not be sure whether breast-feeding is right for them.
The group will meet at 11 a.m. on the third Wednesday of every month, beginning April 18, at the Tonganoxie United Methodist Church, 328 E. Fourth St. in Tonganoxie.
Reservations are not required, and moms from any county (and their babies) are welcome.
“There are so many misconceptions and so much misinformation about breast-feeding floating around, it’s crucial to provide a safe, nurturing environment where moms can have their questions answered by someone who may have faced similar issues or had similar experiences,” said Polly Slater, certified breast-feeding educator and the facilitator of the new support group. “I want to make sure that we provide a place where all moms feel welcome to share their stories and address their concerns.”
Mommy to Mommy Tonganoxie is sponsored by the Kansas Parents as Teachers Association, Keystone Parents as Teachers, and United Methodist Health Ministries.
