McLouth Happenings

Wear your Red, White and Blue; Wave Your Flags. McLouth’s 14th Annual Patriots Day Parade and Celebration will be Saturday. “Big Day In A Small Town” takes place downtown, beginning with pancakes from 8 to 10:30 a.m. at the fire station. There’s a health fair at McLouth Medical Clinic from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Check out the military memorabilia display, vendors, homemade ice cream, McLouth Library’s basket drawing, bake sale and lots of garage sales. Fun for all ages.  Welcome active duty military and families! Children’s parade (all children 12 years and younger) begins at 11 a.m.; main parade begins at 1 p.m. and will include Fort Riley mule team and soldiers, Mahaffie farms stagecoach and Wild West re-enactors. All veterans are welcome to ride on the veterans’ trolley. McLouth recreation commission will sponsor this event.

McLouth Public Library’s book discussion group will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 23. For more information, please call (913) 796-2225.

Everyone is invited to enjoy a free spring concert performed by the University of Saint Mary community band at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, in the Saint Joseph Dining Hall on the USM campus in Leavenworth.

Jefferson County Historical Society at Old Jefferson Town in Oskaloosa is the official repository of Jefferson County records, the Jefferson County Genealogical Society and research activities. Historical structures from around the county, including a blacksmith shop, jail, general store, chapel, school house, Victorian home, and the John Steuart Curry boyhood home and museum have been moved onto the 10-acre park. Many events are planned throughout the calendar year. Old Jefferson Town is located one block South of the Highway 59 / 92 junction in Oskaloosa will be open weekend afternoons May thru September.

The banquet for all McLouth alumni will be at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at McLouth school cafeteria and purple (north) gym. All graduating seniors, alumni and faculty (past and present) are welcome. Cost is $5 per person; $8 per couple. A meat entree will be provided. Attendees are asked to bring a side dish. Classes of 1962, 1972, 1987, 2002 and 2012 will be recognized.

A dance for all McLouth High School alumni follows the banquet at 8 p.m., located at 19859 K-92 highway, north of McLouth. The class of 1987, celebrating its 25th year, has organized this. Rock and country music bands will alternate, so everyone can enjoy this evening of fun.
