THS wrestlers find success in Wamego

For the second year in a row, Tonganoxie High travelled to Wamego to open its wrestling season. For the second year in a row, the Chieftains found plenty of success in the process.

Both McLouth High basketball teams opened their seasons in winning fashion, defeating Heritage Christian Academy Friday in Olathe. The MHS girls (1-0) cruised to a 76-47 victory in coach Lindsey Graf’s debut, then the boys (1-0) capped off the night with a 61-48 win.

If Tonganoxie High boys coach Shawn Phillips wanted to test his new-look team against a top-tier opponent, he didn’t need to look farther than the first game of the season. A visit from Class 5A powerhouse Lansing on Friday provided the Chieftains with arguably one of the toughest teams they’ll face all year, and the results spoke for themselves.

When the Tonganoxie High girls basketball team opened its 2012-13 campaign Friday against Lansing, the Chieftains weren’t without the mishaps often synonymous with season openers. However, as most veteran teams do, THS quickly shook off the rust and cruised a win at home.

The Chieftain Singers vocal group is a finalist to receive $5,000 for the Tonganoxie High School vocal music department through a local radio station and will need residents’ help in being the top group.
