Family FCCLA’s ‘central focus’
To the editor:
This year, the Tonganoxie Middle School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America started a student assistance program to help middle school students. The goal was to start a weekend food program that would be able to be continued every school year. With the support of TMS students, community members and The Leighty Grant, the program also provided a way for students to have financial assistance when needed.
For FCCLA, family is the central focus and Tonganoxie has helped build strong families by showing that we can all come together to help each other. All of the support we have received for this program is greatly appreciated and would not have been possible without a supportive community. Our hope is to continue to help students for many years to come.

Thrift store’s success possible through generous support
To the editor:
Some call it The Boutique, The Downtown Emporium, The Good Shepherd or simply The Thrift Shop.
Whatever the name, the little white building on the corner of Fourth and Shawnee in Tonganoxie continues to meet the needs of those less fortunate. That is because of the faithful support of the Tonganoxie community. Many of the things we do here at Good Shepherd are made possible by your local supporters. Many thanks to all the clubs, organizations, schools, churches, 4-H clubs, scouts, veterans, and individuals who have given of their time and/or financial support when it was most needed. We thank those many individuals who adopted families at Christmas, providing gifts and a holiday meal, as well as those who helped provide Thanksgiving baskets, either financially or by giving of their time. To our shoppers, thanks for coming by. And thanks to those of you who donate items no longer needed.
“If you need something done, ask a busy person to do it.” That applies to our wonderful volunteers. They work tirelessly and put in extra hours to get the job done. Thanks guys and gals!
May you all have a joyous New Year!
