January 10, 2012

The Leavenworth County Republican Women met at the Byron H. Mehl American Legion Post No. 23 Hall on Dec.12 for their annual Christmas party. Members and associate members each showed up with a sack of groceries to share with the less fortunate in the county along with a covered dish to share with their fellow members.

After lunch, officers were installed for the upcoming 2012-2013 term. Sabrina Valenta of Bonner Springs, outgoing president, swore in the new officers: Barbara Paulus (president) from Bonner Springs and Leavenworth residents Linda Scheer (vice-president), Karenn Voorhees (secretary), and Linda Flanagan (treasurer).

Willie Dove, associate member and Bonner Springs resident, lead the group in singing Christmas carols. He soloed on the songs “Christmas Shoes” and “Mary, Did You Know?”

In the week following the meeting, the donations were distributed to food banks in Leavenworth County. Linda Scheer delivered to Trinity House in Leavenworth while Sabrina Valenta delivered to Elm Grove Baptist Church in Bonner Springs. LCRW member Rep. Connie O’Brien and her husband delivered to the Good Shepherd Thrift Shop and Food Bank in Tonganoxie.
