Leavenworth County play to have final showing Saturday

By Shawn Linenberger - | Nov 6, 2012

There is a Tonganoxie flavor to the River City Community Players’ production of “A Little Murder Never Hurt Anybody.”

Jeff Adams, Leavenworth County Sheriff’s office school resource officer for Tonganoxie USD 464 and a 1987 Tonganoxie High School graduate, is the play’s director.

One of Adams’ high school classmates, Julie Stone-Head, plays the part of Julia Perry, the lead female role in the play, while Danielle Knight, a 2010 THS graduate, plays Bunny, Julia’s daughter.

“She does an amazing job,” Adams said.

Barbara Easter, secretary at the THS west campus, is stage manager, her first venture into that theater position.

Adams has called Easter’s contributions “unbelievable.”

The production, which will have its final two shows at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday at Hollywood Theater, 500 Delaware St. in Leavenworth, is getting some favorable reviews.

At kcstage.com, one reviewer wrote “the show was pure comedy, from the actors’ incredible deliverance to a couple of comical musical choices.”

Another reviewer said Knight had “exceptional” comedic timing and that Head turned in an “excellent” performance.

Tickets for the play are $10. Reservations can be made by calling 913-651-0027.

“For $10 you can barely go to see a movie and the price of consessions,” Adams said. “Ours are more than ridiculously reasonable at intermission times. We’re about as cheap as you get.”

And the historic Hollywood Theater is a cozy venue that seats about 280, Adams said.

“It’s a lot of fun,” Adams said about the comedy. “People starring in the play are all people in our community.”
