McLouth Happenings

By Beverly Muzzy - | Nov 6, 2012

“Kansas FreedomFest” is a two-day festival over Veterans Day weekend in November. Tenth Avenue Park in Leavenworth will host the events on Nov. 9-10. The goal is to celebrate veterans and raise awareness and funds for veteran support programs in our community. Events include a chili cook-off and bike show Friday evening. The festival will culminate in a Salute to Veterans benefit concert Saturday afternoon with an exceptional lineup of country and rock music featuring Clay Walker, Aaron Tippin and The Marshall Tucker Band.  (Veterans and active duty military can get free benefit concert tickets, but must show proof of service at the gate.)

General admission is $30.  This is a wonderful opportunity to support our veterans and enjoy a good time. Bring your family and friends. For complete information, visit http://www.kansasfreedomfest.com.

The Veterans Day parade in downtown Leavenworth begins at 10:30 a.m. Monday.

American Legion Post 41 will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday in the 4-H Building on the fairgrounds in Tonganoxie, followed by the monthly meeting of American Legion Riders.

Tonganoxie American Legion Post 41 will host a benefit gun show and flea market from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 17-18 at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. A $25 donation is requested for a 10-foot table for the gun show. A $10 donation is requested for a 10-square-foot space for the flea market. Vendors can set up from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 16. Admission is a $5 donation. Children under the age of 10 may attend for free. Gun show vendors, please contact John Tillisch: 785-438-7958; flea market vendors, please contact Mel Kleinschmidt: 979-308-5222.
