Forums coming to Basehor

The first of two forums sponsored by Basehor Community Library will take place Saturday, giving residents an opportunity to submit questions for local candidates.

At 10 a.m. Saturday, the Basehor VFW and library will cohost a forum with candidates for U.S. House of Representatives, Kansas Senate and Kansas House of Representatives at the Basehor VFW Hall, 2806 N. 155th St.

Those who have confirmed their attendance are: Tobias Schlingensiepen (D) U.S. House of Representatives Second District candidate, Tom Holland (D) Kansas Senate Third District (incumbent); Anthony Brown, Kansas Senate Third District candidate; Pete Henderson (D) Kansas House of Representatives District 38 candidate; and Willie Dove (R) Kansas House of Representatives District 38 candidate.

The second forum on Tuesday, Oct. 23, will feature candidates for Leavenworth County, including county clerk, treasurer, attorney, sheriff, register of deeds and commissioner. Starting at 6:30 p.m., the forum will take place at the Basehor Community Library, 1400 158th St.

Those who have confirmed their attendance are: Todd Thompson (R), county attorney (incumbent); Pat Cahill (D) county attorney candidate; Andy Dedeke (R), sheriff candidate; Burdel Welsh (D), sheriff candidate; Dennis Bixby (R) county commission District 3 candidate; and Mike Yanez (D), county commission District 3 candidate.

Each of the candidates will make a short presentation and answer questions from the audience.
