Chieftain volleyball falls to Lansing in four sets
The Tonganoxie High volleyball team kept things close for most of the night, but fell in four sets Tuesday at Kaw Valley League opponent Lansing.
The Chieftains (9-10) dropped the first set, 25-10, but regained their composure and didn't allow the Lions to pull away for the rest of the match. LHS squeaked out a 25-23 win in the second set, then THS responded with a 25-23 win of its own in the third. Lansing needed extra points in the fourth set, but clinched the match with a 26-24 victory.
Senior Jenny Whitledge had a big night for the Chieftains with 18 kills and 22 digs. Junior Marissa Martin had a career-high and team-high 24 digs and senior Madee Walker added eight kills.
THS will return to the court on Thursday when it travels to Holton. The Wildcats are currently ranked No. 5 in the Kansas Volleyball Coaches Association poll.
