Hit and run accident sends 2 to local hospital
A two-vehicle accident midday Wednesday south of Tonganoxie sent a Tonganoxie woman and child to a local hospital.
The accident happened about noon Wednesday roughly a mile south of Tonganoxie, according to Kansas Highway Patrol reports. An unknown vehicle rear-ended a 2009 Nissan Cube, which was headed south on U.S. Highway 24-40. Shilyn C. Carlson, 23, Tonganoxie was driving the Cube and had slowed down for a vehicle that was turning right onto Honey Creek Road when the unidentified vehicle struck her vehicle, sending it off the road before the Cube struck a fence.
Carlson and a passenger, Caden H. Guthrie, 4, Tonganoxie, were taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with possible injuries, reports said.
Carlson was wearing a seat belt, reports said, while Caden was restrained in a booster seat.
