Emergency officials responded to two accidents last week in Tonganoxie.

One accident occurred about 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, March 13, at U.S. Highway 24-40 and Stone Creek/South Park.

Jessica Carlson, 20, Tonganoxie, was driving a 2008 Ford Edge and was preparing to turn left, or east, onto U.S. 24-40 from Stone Creek when her vehicle struck a 1999 Chevrolet Silverado driven by Richard Bull, 58, McLouth. Bull was traveling west, Tonganoxie police reports said.

Bull’s Silverado rolled over and came to rest in the ditch northwest of Stone Creek and U.S. 24-40, while Carlson’s Edge came to rest on the right shoulder of the U.S. 24-40 eastbound lanes.

Bull told officials he was experiencing overall pain, but declined medical treatment. Carlson was not injured. Both were wearing seat belts, reports said.

A second accident last week took place about 11 p.m. Thursday at Laming Road and Tonganoxie Drive.

Justin Calahan, 25, Leavenworth, was driving a 2011 Mazda 3. Leavenworth County Sheriff’s officers investigated the scene and determined Carlson was driving north on Laming Road at high speeds and left the road to the east. After leaving the road, the vehicle struck a raised concrete manhole cover and overturned. Calahan and a passenger, Shauna Marlar, 17, Leavenworth, were taken to Kansas University Hospital by Leavenworth County Emergency Medical Service. Both were treated and released, according to the sheriff’s office.

Alcohol is thought to be a factor in the crash, according to sheriff’s reports.
