Lawrence couple searching for missing 20-year-old son in Leawood and Lawrence
Jim and Gail Ellis, of Lawrence, are searching for their son after he walked away from a group home in Leawood early Tuesday morning. Andrew Ellis, 20, lives in the supervised community because he suffers from a brain injury and his parents are worried that he isn't safe walking the streets by himself.
Leawood police said they were looking for Andrew and have issued an alert to law enforcement in the Kansas City area. Jim Ellis said he thinks Andrew might make his way to Lawrence, where his parents live.
Gail Ellis said Andrew is 5 feet, 7 inches tall, 160 pounds, and suffers from a developmental brain injury that may not be immediately apparent to those who meet him. He needs daily medication and does not have any money or a phone. He left the Life Centers community living center in Leawood, where he has been living since December, early this morning on foot.
Anyone with information is asked to call the Leawood Police Department at 913-642-7700.
