After two weeks of district play, the McLouth High football team is well on its way to a second straight playoff appearance.

MHS dominated another Class 2-1A District 2 opponent Friday, cruising to a 38-0 win against rival Oskaloosa at Stan Braksick Sports Complex. The Bulldogs (5-2, 2-0 district) scored 16 points each in the first two quarters and held the Bears (3-4, 2-1) scoreless for their second shutout of the season.

Drew Cerny opened scoring with an 18-yard touchdown run in the first quarter — his first of three scores on the ground — and quarterback Jack Courtney ran in the two-point conversion. Courtney hooked up with Nick McAferty on a 55-yard touchdown pass later in the quarter and added another conversion to make it 16-0 after the opening period.

The Bulldogs didn’t let up in the second quarter, as Courtney found Cerny from 38 yards out and ran in his third conversion of the game. Cerny then scored on a 17-yard run and Courtney found Kevin Gann for two more points, and MHS took a 32-0 lead into the locker room at halftime.

Cerny capped off scoring with a 15-yard touchdown run in the third quarter, and the Bulldog defense preserved the shutout after the break. MHS has held five opponents to a single touchdown or less this season, including its last three.

Courtney enjoyed a big offensive night, throwing for 96 yards and running for 47 more to go with his scoring output. Cerny racked up 140 rushing yards on just 10 carries. As a team, McLouth racked up 370 yards of offense.

For the second week in a row, The Bulldogs covered the 21-point spread, which would work to their advantage in the event of a tie in the district standings. MHS is the only team without a loss in district play. It will host Valley Falls (1-6, 1-1) on Friday. The Dragons defeated Leavenworth-Immaculata last week, 28-6.
