Tonganoxie High School will be in search of a new principal.

Jamie Carlisle, who has been the school’s principal since the summer of 2007, has given his resignation, effective June 30.

The Tonganoxie USD 464 school board formally accepted his resignation at the end of its meeting Monday night.

In an email to The Mirror, Carlisle wrote:

"It is with careful consideration that I respectfully submitted my letter of resignation, effective at the end of the 2014-15, as the Tonganoxie High School Principal. I will continue to faithfully serve the duties of Tonganoxie's principal through the end of the 2014-15 school year, completing the requirements and expectations of my current contract."

Carlisle’s resignation was an update from the board packet for Monday’s meeting, which was sent out Thursday by Carlisle’s wife, Val, the district office’s secretary.

In that packet, his name was among the six building administrators the board was set to vote on for the 2015-16 school year and not among the list of hirings and resignations for the board to vote on at Monday’s meeting.

At the beginning of Monday’s meeting, updated lists given to The Mirror showed Carlisle no longer among the list of administrators up for contract approval. His name had been added to the resignation list.

After Monday’s meeting, Superintendent Lyn Rantz gave The Mirror a press release saying the district was planning for the future and that it was renewing contracts for six of seven administrators.

All building administrators, as well as director of educational programs Tonya Phillips will be offered one-year contracts for the 2015-16 school year. Rantz is in her first of a two-year contract.

“We thank Mr. Carlisle for his work and enthusiasm,” board president Kathy Baragary said in the release. “His positive energy will be missed at THS and we wish him success in the future.”

According to Baragary, “making leadership decisions is our responsibility so that things are in place to enable all students to learn and be successful at every level within our school system. We want all our students to be prepared for college and career endeavors. We are confident we have done so. We appreciate the hard work that our Tongie administrators, teachers and staff put in every day. We know we have a good school system and we believe it will be a great district when we fully realize our mission and goals. Our continued emphasis is to do what is best for our students, families and community.”

The release said board members are unable to discuss personnel matters because they are confidential.
