By Shawn Linenberger - | Nov 25, 2014

Name: LeAnn Bond

Born: Bethany Medical Center in Kansas City, Kan., Family: Husband, Matt; daughter, Mia, 14; son, Dallas, 11; and son, Drew, 6.

Occupation: Bond has been a physical education teacher at Tonganoxie High School since 1998. She’s been a member of PEO Chapter HS for 14 years and plans to finish up 11 years on the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission board next month.

Dream job as a child: Bond wanted to be a PE teacher. “I loved PE and I loved sports and I just wanted to be like Phil Lobb,” Bond said of the former THS PE teacher. “I loved to be around Coach J (longtime PE teacher Phil Jeannin) and Phil Lobb.”

Interesting fact: Bond taught at an all-girls water skiing camp in Maine while in college.

Bond was in search of a summer job and saw information about the opening in Maine. Her parents were on board and she got the job, so she spent one summer in New England.

Digging deeper: A 1990 THS graduate, Bond went to Fort Hays State University where she competed in running events her freshman year and javelin her sophomore year. Future husband Matt also competed on the track team.

LeAnn landed a teaching job in North Platte, Neb., where Matt also student taught (Matt happened to teach former THS wrestling coach/Tonganoxie Elementary School PE teacher Jeremy Goebel when he was in high school in North Platte).

Her sister Lori Meadows started to become sick and later died of complications with diabetes 15 years ago this month.

She said they moved back to the area to be around her parents and her sister when Lori became ill.

Bond said that, in her spare time, she likes to watch her children play sports.

“I go to all their games and all their activities,” she said.

She also said she likes hanging out at Lake Dabinawa.

The family also likes to travel. For instance, they went a couple summers ago to California.

“We go all over the place,” Bond said.
