THS spikers fall to Piper in five

By Staff Report - | Oct 8, 2014

The Tonganoxie High volleyball team wasn’t able to end its Kaw Valley League losing streak Tuesday, falling to Piper at home in five sets, 20-25, 25-19, 21-25, 25-13, 13-15.

The Chieftains (12-15, 1-4 KVL) have been up and down since placing fourth at their home tournament on Sept. 27. They split a triangular with Holton and Kansas City Christian on Sept. 29, then fell at Lansing in straight sets the next day. They went 1-1 in another triangular on Oct. 1 against Spring Hill and Sumner Academy.

With Tuesday’s loss, THS saw its league skid grow to four matches. It hasn’t defeated a KVL opponent since sweeping Turner in its season opener on Sept. 2.

The Chieftains will be back in action Saturday at the De Soto Spikefest. The tournament field includes all three members of the Tonganoxie’s sub-state field in host school De Soto, Basehor-Linwood and Eudora.
