Tonganoxie USD 464 board approves plan to increase mill levy

The Tonganoxie USD 464 school board plans to increase the tax rate by about 2 mills for 2015-16. The board approved Superintendent Lyn Rantz’s budget proposal at Monday’s special meeting. If it gets final approval later this month, it would carry a mill rate of 60.4. That’s up from 58.443 in 2014-15. A mill is $1 in taxes for every $1,000 in residential property valuation.
British soccer camp returns to Tonganoxie

An annual camp in Tonganoxie had about 25 youths learning the ins and outs of soccer recently. The Challenger Sports British Soccer Camp took place July 20-24 with youths ages 5-8 going in the morning and those ages 9-14 participating in the evening. Rains the first morning kept youths off the Chieftain Park field.
Use of batboys and girls suspended after 9-year-old’s death

The National Baseball Congress suspended using batboys and girls during its World Series games in Kansas following the death of a 9-year-old boy who was accidentally hit in the head with a bat during a game.
