Tonganoxie USD 464 officials urging parents to apply online to assist in potential state aid
Tonganoxie USD 464 Superintendent Lyn Rantz has said that early enrollment shows several new students are enrolled in the district. With the state's new block funding, the district won't receive additional state aid for those students, as was the case with the previous state aid formula.
The new funding formula, however, includes opportunities for additional funding. To potentially qualify for this aid, the district needs complete enrollment numbers as soon as possible. Online enrollment has been extended until 8 a.m. Monday.
Here is a letter that Rantz has crafted for parents:
Hello Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to the 2015-2016 school year! We are looking forward to a new year, which begins on Aug. 20 (K-9 half day). We are excited to have had more students move into our community and enroll in USD 464 schools. However, we are limited in how many teachers we can hire due to the state’s block funding, which is calculated upon last year’s student enrollment.
There is a possibility of our school gaining increased STATE funding (Extraordinary Need State Aid), for additional teachers and staff, if we can show that our enrollment has increased. Therefore, the principals and teachers need your help. Between now and Monday, Aug. 10, we need all parents of returning students to complete their online enrollment. To complete enrollment simply go to: www.tong464.org, Parent, 2015-16 Enrollment. New students must enroll in person at their respective building.
By completing enrollment we have the opportunity for additional state funds called “Extraordinary Need State Aid”. The application process is on a very short timeline and it is solely based upon our enrollment.
If you have already enrolled your student for the 2015-16 school year, thank you! If you haven’t, but plan on enrolling your student in a Tonganoxie school, please do so as soon as possible. Online enrollment for returning students has been extended to 8 a.m. Monday, Aug. 10. After that time, you will need to complete enrollment at each school. We appreciate your attention to this.
Spread the word and support our schools — completed student enrollment could help our school district get more funding, which will equal more teachers and smaller class sizes. I will be sure to keep you posted on this critical issue.
If you have any questions on this, please let me know at 913-416-1400 or email@example.com. As always, thank you for support of Tonganoxie School District!
Lyn Rantz, Superintendent
