A new era begins in Tonganoxie

It’s been a few years in the making, but the new, state-of-the-art Tonganoxie Elementary School — thought to be the largest in the state — is ready to be the new home for early education. The school, at 1180 S. East St., will have roughly 850 students in kindergarten through fifth grade with room to grow.

Some birds might be confusing the Sunshine State with the Sunflower State. Flamingos generally aren’t seen in these parts, but a flock of them — of the plastic variety — have been migrating from neighborhood to neighborhood in Tonganoxie. Team Tongie is “flocking” yards as a fundraiser throughout August. The process is simple.

Tonganoxie City Council gives final approval for 2016 budget

The Tonganoxie City Council has given final approval for its 2016 budget. The council approved the budget Monday after a public hearing on the matter during the council’s regular meeting. Tonganoxie’s 2016 budget will come with a lower mill levy, but residents will see an increase in sewer rates in the new year.
