Tonganoxie USD 464 recognizes Becker for years of service
Hires, resignations approved
Before getting into the heart of its meeting Monday, the Tonganoxie School Board took time to recognize Debbie Becker for her years of service in the school district.
Becker, a secretary at Tonganoxie Elementary School, retired after 25 years with the district. She stayed for the transition to the new TES this year and officially retired in recent weeks.
TES principal Ty Poell said Becker was “kind of the security blanket in the office.”
“We always knew things were going to get taken care of with her,” he said.
Poell said he was thankful to work with Becker the past nine years and said her greatest qualities were that she was smart, talented, a hard worker and great professional with a “healthy sense of humor.”
Lorelei Witt, who has worked in the Parent Teacher Club the past six years, also spoke glowingly about Becker.
Witt said she and other secretaries at TES always were supportive and helper and “very good multi-taskers.”
She said Becker probably was so excited to deal with fundraisers in assembling 600 packets for students.
Superintendent Lyn Rantz also spoke highly of Becker.
“Very rarely in an organization can you find someone who has had the same job 25 years,” Rantz said. “We’re going to miss her greatly.”
Rantz appreciated Becker in staying on for the transition to the new school and “handing the baton off” to new secretary Susan Donnelly, who has spent several years working at TES.
The board had a reception for 15 minutes to honor Becker before returning to meeting business.
Board approves resignations
The board approved resignations and work agreements at Monday’s meeting.
Resignations accepted were Ed Dobbins, transportation department diesel mechanic; Kevin Wade, high school football coach; and Chrystal Neeb-Thomas, teacher of the deaf and hard of hearing. Dobbins and Wade’s resignations are effective immediately, while Neeb-Thomas’ resignation is effective Friday.
The board also approved these work agreements: Melissa Pratt, Tonganoxie High School softball coach (replacing Matthew Dunning); Thomas Putthoff, special education bus paraprofessional (replacing Nancy Harr); and Amber Diaz, Tonganoxie Elementary School special education paraprofessional (filling previously approved new position).
Another TES special education para-educator position also was approved at the meeting.
