Carlisle no longer Tonganoxie High principal

By Shawn Linenberger - | Feb 10, 2015

Former Tonganoxie High School principal Jamie Carlisle speaks at a THS graduation. Carlisle no longer is principal at the school where he took over in 2007.

Jamie Carlisle no longer is principal at Tonganoxie High School.

Mark Farrar will serve as the school’s interim principal the rest of the school year. This is his second year in the district, as he became the middle school principal before the 2013-14 school year.

Asked Monday about Carlisle’s departure, Superintendent Lyn Rantz declined to answer questions about Carlisle, saying that it was a personnel issue and she could not comment.

Carlisle announced in December that he would be resigning when his current contract was to end in June.

In an email to The Mirror in December, Carlisle wrote:

“It is with careful consideration that I respectfully submitted my letter of resignation, effective at the end of 2014-15, as the Tonganoxie High School Principal. I will continue to faithfully serve the duties of Tonganoxie’s principal through the end of the 2014-15 school year, completing the requirements and expectations of my current contract.”

Asked to comment on the recent development, Carlisle did not respond immediately to an attempt to reach him.

Carlisle came to Tonganoxie in the summer of 2007 from Baxter Springs.

Farrar started the transition to interim high school principal Monday.

“I’ve always enjoyed working with high school students,” Farrar said Tuesday. “The majority of my career has been spent with young adults. My focus this year will be helping our students continue on a path for success. It’s clear that Tonganoxie High School has a very strong tradition with a tremendous staff and amazing students. I’m excited to join this team as interim principal.”

Before coming to Tonganoxie, Farrar served as K-12 principal in Waverly. And before that, he was assistant principal at Wichita South.

“Watching kids transform into responsible and productive young adults is the most gratifying thing to see,” Farrar said. “This is a four-year window that goes by so fast. The changes that occur academically, socially and developmentally are truly amazing.”

TMS assistant principal Mark Altman will remain at the middle school as Farrar moves to the high school’s east campus.

THS assistant principal Brent Smith will remain at the west campus.
