LMH Summer Spray 5K coming Saturday to Tonganoxie

By Shawn Linenberger - | Jul 16, 2015

With the heat wave that has hit the area, the Lawrence Memorial Hospital Summer Spray 5K event Saturday in Tonganoxie might be coming at just the right time.

The event will begin with registration at 6:30 a.m. July 18 at Family Medicine of Tonganoxie, 410 Woodfield Drive. The race will start at 7:30 p.m. Cost is $10 for youths 12 and younger, Adult pre-registration is $25, while adult registration is $30. Team registration (up three people) is $50. Participants can register online at lmhendowment.org by clicking on the event. Online registration must be complete 48 hours before the 5K.

The Spray 5K is part of a series of runs. The first took place in Eudora earlier this summer.

The Eudora Summer Spray attracted some 200 participants June 20. LMH’s final run of the summer will be Aug. 15 in Baldwin City.

Registration also can be downloaded at the website and mailed to LMH Endowment Association, 325 Main St., Lawrence 66044.

As you run or walk LMH’s certified courses, prepare to be sprinkled, squirted, splashed and, of course, sprayed — all for good fun and to help local causes. While half of the proceeds from each race will support LMH, the other half will go back to the three communities through wellness grants.

The 2014 wellness grant for Tonganoxie is being used to provide free sports physicals later this month at Family Medicine of Tonganoxie.

The free physicals will be administered from 5-7 p.m. Aug. 6 at the clinic. The physicals will be offered on a walk-in basis to Tonganoxie middle and high school students.

The 2014 grant is for $2,500.

Saturday’s course is United States of America Track and Field-certified and the races will be chip-timed. Results will be lmhendowment.org following the 5K.
