Tonganoxie police investigating sexual assault case involving 13-year-old

Tonganoxie police continue to investigate an alleged sexual assault case involving a 13-year-old girl at a party with other teens.

The alleged incident occurred late Saturday at an apartment complex on Ridge Circle.

The tenant of the apartment where the alleged incident took place, a 53-year-old man, also is being investigated for supplying alcohol at the party.

Police Chief Jeff Brandau said prescription drugs were thought to be involved as well.

According to reports, several other teens sexually assaulted the girl. As one was assaulting her, the others watched and then the teens took turns, according to reports.

The victim’s mother flagged down a patrol officer early Sunday morning to report the incident.

Police Chief Jeff Brandau said there were seven or eight teens at the party. He said there were several suspects and all were 16 or 17 and all thought to be Tonganoxie residents.

Brandau stressed that the case continued to be under investigation. Authorities are investigating the 53-year-old man, who is the father of a boy at the party, on suspicion of aggravated endangering of a child and putting a child in a reckless situation. The suspects in the sexual assault case — all juveniles themselves — are being investigated on suspicion of aggravated indecent liberties with a child younger than 14.

No arrests have been made yet, Brandau said Wednesday.

He said officers have been called to the residence several times in the past, but no arrests ever were made.

Brandau said the 13-year-old girl is a Tonganoxie Middle School student.
