An off-duty firefighter provided CPR to a near-drowning 4-year-old Monday afternoon at Tonganoxie Water Park. The child’s mother told police that she took another child to the park’s slide while family members watched her 4-year-old girl. She said she later noticed the child floating face down in the pool and pulled her out.

Tonganoxie City Council holds off on excise tax decision for church

The Tonganoxie City Council held off on a decision on Cornerstone Family Worship’s excise tax exemption request. The Rev. Ron Swaim, pastor for Cornerstone Family Worship, spoke to the council during Monday’s regular city council meeting. Swaim’s congregation will have a new church where the Sunset Motel formerly stood near the U.S. Highway 24-40 curve across from Tonganoxie High School’s east campus to the northwest.
Tidal swim win in Leavenworth

The Tonganoxie Tidal Waves swim team notched a team victory last Friday at Wollman Aquatic Center in Leavenworth. Tonganoxie won the meet, 266-200. “The rain held off and we were able to have meet on time and completely,” said Janet Falk, Tidal Waves coach. The team again will be in action with a meet this Friday against Eudora at Tonganoxie Water Park. The meet starts at 7:30 a.m. and should run until 11:30 a.m. or noon.

Tonganoxie Library run raises more than $10,000

Organizers for this year’s Tonganoxie Library Run for the Books had an ambitious goal for the event — raise at least $10,000. It was a number library board president David Frese said almost was picked jokingly, as if there were a chance that much money could be raised.
