Club/organization name: Tonganoxie Civic Club

Established: 1998

How it was started: The Civic Club began when local community members participating in Kiwanis International decided that they wanted local charitable contributions to stay in Tonganoxie rather than around the world. The group informed the International group that they were ending their membership in Tonganoxie and going out on their own. The former Kiwanis members joined forces with several members of the local optimist club and the Tonganoxie Civic Club was born.

Mission statement or motto: The mission of the Civic Club is to help members of the Tonganoxie community in need.

Interesting fact(s) about the group: The Tonganoxie Civic Club is a Kansas Not for Profit Corporation. All contributions to the Tonganoxie Civic Club go to local causes.

Who can join: Open to anyone

Membership dues: No dues required

Meeting frequency: The Civic Club meets at 7 a.m. each Saturday at Flashback’s Restaurant in downtown Tonganoxie.

People/things it benefits: The greater community of Tonganoxie. The Civic Club provides scholarships for graduating seniors, as well as, annual donations for teacher grants, activities through the Tonganoxie Recreation Commission, area food banks and other community needs.

Biggest fundraisers: The Civic Club organizes a charity golf tournament each spring and a walk for Tonganoxie each fall.
