By Shawn Linenberger - | Mar 20, 2015

The Tonganoxie High golf team is the first spring squad to get its season started.

THS will compete in a golf tournament Saturday.

The Chieftain girls soccer team opens the season Wednesday, March 25, with a 6 p.m. contest against Bishop Ward in Tonganoxie.

THS softball and baseball open play March 26 at Bishop ward, while the THS baseball junior varsity squad is at home against Bishop Ward. JV starts at 3 p.m., while varsity baseball and softball start at 4 p.m.

Tonganoxie High baseball stays busy the following week. Junior varsity travels March 30 to Meriden to take on Jeff West, while the varsity squad is at home March 31 to take on the Tigers at the Leavenworth County Fairgrounds. Both doubleheaders start at 4:30 p.m.

Chieftains coach Mitch Loomis said the opening schedule should be a good test for his team, which looks to make back-to-back state appearances. Ward won the Class 4A Division II title last year and Jeff West has had Tonganoxie’s number in recent years.

THS track doesn’t open the season until April 3 with the Ottawa Invitational. The meet starts at 3:30 p.m.

McLouth softball begins its season March 24 with a home doubleheader against Atchison.

Like THS baseball, the McLouth softball team will be eyeing a second consecutive trip to the state tournament.

MHS baseball is home the same day with a doubleheader against Falls City, Neb.

Mclouth track and field doesn’t start the season until April 7 with the Oskaloosa Invitational. The meet starts at 4 p.m.
