Semi trailer hits 2 buffalo east of Tonganoxie

By Shawn Linenberger - | May 5, 2015

A semi-tractor trailer struck two buffalo early Monday just east of Tonganoxie.

The vehicle, which was headed east on U.S. Highway 24-40, struck and killed two buffalo that had wandered onto the highway between Stone Creek/South Park Drive and 206th Street.

The vehicle sustained considerable damage but the driver was not injured, said Jeff Brandau, Tonganoxie police chief.

The buffalo had inhabited a nearby pasture, but had gotten out and wandered onto the highway. Buffalo have been on nearby land for several years. There also have been previous incidents when buffalo have found their way out of the pasture.
