Tonganoxie School Board special meeting Thursday to cover potential LOB increase, freshman athletics

By Shawn Linenberger - | May 13, 2015

The Tonganoxie USD 464 School Board will have a special meeting Thursday to discuss the possibility of increasing the local option budget and to further discuss Monday’s decision to eliminate ninth-grade athletics schedules for the 2015-16 school year as a cost-saving measure.

The meeting, which is open to the public, will start at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Chieftain Room on the Tonganoxie High School east campus

School districts have the choice to increase local option budgets above 30 percent, but it requires a public vote. If the district were to pursue increasing the LOB, which would create more revenue through additional taxpayer money, a vote in the coming weeks would cost the district about $9,500.

As for the freshman games, the Kaw Valley League constitution states that all member schools must field ninth-grade teams for competition.
