THS softball top of the class

The Tonganoxie High softball team entered this week’s Class 4A Division 1 regional play defeating rival Basehor-Linwood.

The Chieftains (10-7) were the top seed in the Baldwin regional, which took place after The Mirror’s deadline on Tuesday.

THS opened with No. 4 seed De Soto (7-12) Tuesday afternoon, with the winner to face either No. 2 Eudora (10-9) or No. 3 Baldwin (7-12) in the championship game.

Before regionals, THS was able to get a victory against arch-rival Basehor-Linwood.

THS rallied for an exciting 10-9 victory against the Bobcats.

BLHS opened the game with 3 runs in the bottom of the first, but THS, known for putting together big innings this season, responded with 5 runs in the fourth and 5 runs in the sixth.

BLHS responded with runs in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings, but THS was able to hold on for the 10-9 victory.

Halley Calovich had a hit, an RBI and a walk in the victory, while Audrey Miller had 2 hits, 2 RBI and scored 2 runs.

Reagan Bennett went 2-for-4 and scored a run and Mackenzie Sample also went 2-for-4 with a run.

Lauren Willson finished the game going 2-for-4 with 2 RBI and a run scored, while Taylor Lee also went 2-for-4 with an RBI and 2 runs scored.

Lizzy Mills finished the game 1-for-4 with 2 RBI.
