Longtime Tonganoxie Public Library employee Jim Morey will be recognized for his work at the library with a retirement reception.

Patrons can stop by from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, to help Morey celebrate his retirement.

Morey, who has worn various hats while working at the library, spearheaded the creation of a time capsule for the library in 2012. The capsule is to be opened on Independence Day 2099, which will be 200 years after the first Tonganoxie Public Library board meeting. That gathering was July 4, 1899.

Morey has worked in various areas of the library, including work in its genealogy department.

For more on Morey’s time at the library, see next week’s edition of The Mirror.

Notes to be given to veterans

The library has been inviting patrons to write a “thank you” note to veterans for Veterans Day, which is today.

Library staff plan to deliver the notes to the Tonganoxie Nursing Center and VFW Post 9271 later today.

Thankful cards

Throughout November, the library will be focusing on thankfulness.

“I’m-thankful cards” will be handed out to each patron who comes through the door to take time to think about what they are thankful for this year.

Santa’s workshop Nov. 21

Tonganoxie Public Library will have a Santa’s workshop from 3-4:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

The library will have hot cocoa, snacks, “magical” reindeer food and crafts for children.

Bingo day is Monday

The library’s next bingo day is 1-3 p.m. Monday in its community room.
