By Shawn Linenberger - | Nov 23, 2015

Name: Heather (Sparks) DeMaranville.

Born: Lawrence

Family: Husband, Scott; three children, stepson, AJ, 25; daughter, Emma, 17, Tonganoxie High School senior; and son, Adam, 15, THS freshman.

Occupation: Registered nurse. DeMaranville has been the school nurse at Tonganoxie middle and high schools for the past 15 years.

Dream job as a child: DeMaranville wanted to be a veterinarian when she was in elementary school.

Interesting facts: Before becoming a school nurse, she worked night shifts in maternal/child health at a hospital for several years. She also loves to travel. DeMaranville took a school group to Europe in 2007. She also still is close to her best friends from junior high “because they know way too much about me and own too many late ’80s/early ’90s pictures of me not to keep them happy,” she said.

Digging deeper: DeMaranville is a 1992 graduate of Tonganoxie High School where both of her parents and a grandmother also were graduates. After graduation, she attended Kansas University and Kansas University Medical Center where she received a bachelor’s in nursing. During college, DeMaranville worked as a toll collector at the Kansas Turnpike Authority where she also met her husband.

“I feel really lucky to work as a school nurse because we have such amazing kids in our district,” DeMaranville said. One of her greatest passions is Family, Career and Community Leaders of America.

“It opens so many doors and provides them with leadership and growth opportunities that will benefit them throughout their lifetimes,” she said, referring to FCCLA for students.

She also is a member of PEO chapter HS and serves on many committees at USD 464.
