It was a rough night for the home teams Friday.
Tonganoxie football suffered a 55-6 drubbing against Bonner Springs at Chieftain Field and McLouth fell, 56-0, to Washington County.
The Chieftains now are 3-3 on the season heading into district play, while the Bulldogs are 1-5.
THS was able to get on the scoreboard in the second half, while McLouth couldn’t handle undefeated WCHS on homecoming night at Stan Braksick Sports Complex. WCHS led, 50-0, at halftime.
Tonganoxie plays Friday in Atchison in Class 4A Division I district play against undefeated AHS (6-0), while McLouth takes on Pleasant Ridge (5-1) on Friday near Easton in a 3A district game.
The 1-2 punch continues for Tonganoxie High School cross country.
The Chieftain boys and girls teams continue their streak of finishing first or second at each of their meets.
THS won the boys meet Thursday at Pleasant Ridge, while the girls placed second as a team.
Tonganoxie now will get its final tune-up before the postseason. The Chieftains will compete starting at 3:45 p.m. Thursday in the Kaw Valley League Meet at Shawnee Mission Park.
Lightning again caused the early finish to a Tonganoxie High-Bishop Ward. And for the second time this year, THS claimed a match-shortened victory. The Chieftains won, 4-2, against the Cyclones Thursday in Kansas City, Kan., and improved to 11-3 on the season.
The soccer team next plays at 4 p.m. Tuesday in Atchison against Maur Hill Mount Academy.
The Tonganoxie High grabbed two more home victories Thursday with wins against Jeff West and Pleasant Ridge.
THS defeated Jeff West, 25-10, 25-22, before handling PRHS, 25-10, 25-17. The Chieftains are 19-8 on the season heading into today’s De Soto Spikefest tournament.
