Tonganoxie, McLouth teams prepare for regional, substate assignments

Tonganoxie and McLouth cross country and volleyball teams, as well as Tonganoxie soccer, are preparing for postseason play.

Here’s a look at where the teams will be headed:

Cross country

Tonganoxie cross country teams will compete Saturday morning at the Baldwin Golf Course in a Class 4A regional in Baldwin City.

The girls race will start at 10 a.m. and boys at 10:45 a.m.

Other teams with Tonganoxie and Baldwin are Atchison, Basehor-Linwood, De Soto, Eudora, Holton, Bishop Ward, Piper, Sumner Academy, Jefferson West, Ottawa, Santa Fe Trail, Bishop Miege, Spring Hill and Topeka-Hayden.

Other 4A regional sites are Garnett, Hays and Wichita East (Cessna Activities Center).

McLouth will compete in a 2A regional Saturday in Belleville (Republic County). The boys race will start at 11:30 a.m. and the girls at 12:40 p.m.

Other teams with McLouth and Republic County are Bennington, Valley Heights, Canton-Galva, Herington, Hillsboro, Horton, Jackson Heights, Troy, Valley Falls, Wabaunsee, Washington County and Jefferson County North.

Other 2A sites are Garnett, Hill City and Meade.

If Tonganoxie and McLouth runners advance to state, they’ll compete Oct. 31 in Wamego.

Soccer

The Tonganoxie High soccer team, which is 11-4 entering Thursday’s regular season finale, will compete next week in regional play.

THS is in one of three northeast regionals.

Regional pairings will be announced Saturday.

Volleyball

Tonganoxie will compete in a Class 4A Division I substate Saturday in Wamego.

Tonganoxie, Eudora and Atchison all have similar records, while Wamego will be the No. 4 seed.

Tonganoxie was 24-11, Eudora 24-11 and Atchison 20-12 as of Monday. Wamego was 17-18.

Final pairings for the Wamego substate will be announced this week.

Matches for Tonganoxie’s tournament are set to start at 2 p.m. Saturday in Wamego.

Other 4A D-I sites are Andale, Basehor-Linwood, Buhler, Ottawa, Spring Hill, Towanda-Circle and Winfield.

State will take place Oct. 30-31 in Salina’s Bicentennial Center.

The McLouth volleyball team will compete in a Class 2A substate this weekend.

Matches for the 8-team postseason tournament start at 1 pm. In Winchester.

Other teams with McLouth at the tournament are Alma-Wabaunsee, Valley Heights, Jackson Heights, Horton, McLouth, Troy, Valley Falls and Jefferson County North.

Other 2A substates will take place in Elkhart, Greensburg (Kiowa County), Lyndon, Moundridge, Oberlin (Decatur Community), Pittsburg (St. Mary’s Colgan) and Solomon.

State will be Oct. 30-31 at White Auditorium in Emporia.
