McLouth High football team to finish season Friday at home

The McLouth High football team almost got into the win column Friday with a home game against Atchison County.

MHS dropped a close game, 24-20, as the Bulldogs suffered their second district loss. The team is 1-7 heading into the final game of the season this Friday at home against Maur Hill Mount Academy. The Junior Ravens beat Atchison County, 62-20, and fell to Pleasant Ridge, 32-27. McLouth lost to Pleasant Ridge, 48-6, in Week 7 near Easton.

McLouth, Oskaloosa teams compete at regional event

The MHS cross country program competed Saturday in Belleville at a Class 2A regional.

The girls team finished fifth overall behind good runs by Haylee Weissenbach, Dominique Tullis and Monica McAferty. Ceara Funk finished sixth on the day and qualified for the state championships. On the boys side, Tristan Funk got off to a slow start but managed to make his way to a fourth-place finish and has also qualified for the state championships where he will be a contender to medal. State championships are Saturday in Wamego.

The Oskaloosa boys cross country program competed in the class 3A regionals in mound city on Saturday. Jordan Butler and Shane Adams ran really well for the Bears finishing 15th and 18th respectively and missing out on a state qualification by mere seconds. Justin Shufflebarger finished fourth for the team, as a freshman, and Marek Koch rounded out the five who scored. Sophomores Easton Weems and Cody Van Houtan rounded out the team, a team who has a real shot at competing for a state qualification again next year. The team missed out on state this year by one point. The top runner for the Bears was there Junior phenom Braeden Pfau. Braeden, who has run well all year and finished third in the league, placed fifth at regionals and has qualified for state this Saturday at Rim Rock Farm.

“Braeden will have a real shot to medal,” said Nate Smith, coach for McLouth and Oskaloosa.

MHS falls in substate

The McLouth volleyball squad’s season ended Saturday in a Class 2A substate quarterfinal match.

MHS, the No. 8 seed, feel to No. 1 Valley Falls, 25-13, 25-6. Alma-Wabuansee (24-15) then defeated Valley Falls (35-4), 25-18, 18-25, 25-22, in the championship.

MHS ended the season 1-35.
