Doubleheader sweep helps Tonganoxie High softball move to 8-2

The Tonganoxie High softball team just keeps rolling along.

THS swept Turner on Thursday, 8-0 and 16-3, in games at Kansas City, Kan.

The sweep helped Tonganoxie move to 8-2 on the season.

Tonganoxie was set to play Piper in a doubleheader Tuesday, but the games were postponed because of threatening weather. Those games will be played May 11.

THS is at home Friday for a doubleheader against Spring Hill.

THS splits with Lansing

Tonganoxie suffered just its second loss of the season with the 5-3 defeat April 19 in Lansing.

The Lions jumped out to a 5-0 lead after two innings, but the Chieftains got the bats going in the third with 3 runs of their own. Unfortunately for the visitors, no more runs could be generated. LHS held on for the 5-3 victory. Lansing had 5 runs on 9 hits and no errors, while THS had 3 runs on 7 hits and 1 error.

Delaney Fenoglio had 2 RBI and a triple, while Audrey Miller had the other RBI and a double. Fenoglio also struck out five and walked two on the mound.

In the second game, the Chieftains bounced back quickly. The score was tied at 1 after an inning, but the Chieftains proceeded to score in every inning after that for 12-2 victory in mercy rule-shortened game. THS was up, 2-1, when it scored 4 runs in the third and 4 more runs in the fourth on its way to the 12-2 win.

THS knocked out 16 hits and had 3 errors in the victory, while Lansing had just 2 hits and 2 errors.

Audrey Miller went 4-for-4 and Sierra Graham 3-for-3 in the victory. Halley Calovich went 3-for-4, Regan Bennett 2-for-3 and Mackenzie Sample 2-for-4.

Fenoglio had a homerun and Audrey Miller a triple in the victory. Miller, Calovich, Bennetti Sample and Torrissa Hootman all had doubles in the win.

Maria Howard gave up 2 runs, one of which was earned, on 2 hits on the mound. Howard also gave up 2 walks.
