Budget hearing Thursday

The Linwood Community Library will hold its annual budget hearing at 7 p.m. Thursday to hear and answer any taxpayer objections to proposed use of funds and the amount of tax proposed to be levied for 2017.

Anyone interested in seeing more detailed information may contact the library. It will also be available Thursday night for viewing.

Award-winning chef visiting library

Chef Jim Tinkham will visit the library at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 18 to offer the program “Cooking Without Recipes.”

A full meal, including sides and salad will be prepared during the program, and samplings are part of the program. Space will be limited, so interested parties should plan to arrive early.

Chef Tinkham studied at the Culinary Institute of America. The Greater Kansas City Chefs Association, a Chapter of The American Culinary Foundation, recognized him as Chef of the Year for 2015.

Visitors of Rosie Oelschlaeger on July 31 were John and Janice Oelschlaeger and Erin of Lawrence.

Erin will return to Emporia State University this semester. She is majoring in elementary education in ESU.

Jarbalo United Methodist Women will meet at 12:30 p.m. Aug. 19. Marilyn Oxley will be hostess and have the program.

Vintage car show this weekend

McLouth will host its annual Vintage Invasion Car Show on Saturday and Sunday at McLouth’s Threshing Bee Grounds.

The two-day event is filled with vintage hot rods, muscle cars, trucks, bikes, tractors and vintage campers. All makes, models and years are welcome.

Other activities planned are a Vintage Camper Rally, Vintage Mini-Bike Races, Sunday Parts Swap Meet, Vintage Style Pin Up Contest and a beard-and-mustache contest.

Movies after dark, live classic rock ‘n roll and rockabilly music and vendors also will be showcased.

Guests can add to the fun by wearing your vintage style clothing. Gates open at noon Saturday. Sunday swap meet starts at 7 a.m. Awards will be presented 2 p.m. Sunday.

Laughing Lunch next week

McLouth High School’s Class of 1967 will meet for its “Laughing Lunch” at noon Aug. 18 in T&D’s Place, at 105 S. Union in downtown McLouth (located in what some might remember as the former drugstore.).

All classmates are invited. Organizers look forward to seeing their classmates.
