Knights of Columbus free-throw contest is this weekend
Rec commission also has several activities coming up

The Tonganoxie Knights of Columbus again will be challenging local youths to test their free-throw shooting skills this weeekend. All boys and girls ages 9-14 are invited to participate in the council/local level of competition at the 2016 Tonganoxie Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship.

Heading into Friday’s game, the Tonganoxie Chieftains were still in search of their first win of the season. But after a strong first quarter gave the Mill Valley Jaguars a 25-11 lead, there was little doubt the Tonganoxie Chieftains would have to wait at least one more game for a chance at a win.

Just four minutes into the game, the Tonganoxie girls basketball team found themselves in a 13-2 hole thanks in large part to seven early turnovers. The team would fight back, but was never able to overcome their slow start in a 62-33 loss to Mill Valley.

In one of the marquee tournaments each wrestling season, Tonganoxie finished in the middle of the pack as a team this year. Tonganoxie High placed three wrestlers individually, helping the Chieftains to a 19th-place finish at Saturday’s Bobcat Classic at Basehor-Linwood.
