McLouth Happenings

McLouth High School students have created a new mural at the school. Justina Williams and Matt Miller created a mural incorporating both the school’s mascot, the bulldog. The students worked on the mural during art class and additional hours outside of art class to complete the project.

Leavenworth County Humane Society will have a pick-up July 14 for the Linwood area for spaying and neutering cats and dogs. The pets will be transported from 310 Main St. to Spay & Neuter KC where they will be spayed or neutered and receive their vaccinations. Only 12 slots will be available on this transport, and you have to reserve your spot by emailing It’s a same-day service with drop-off between 7-8:30 a.m. and pick-up from 4:30-5:30 p.m.
Local students on ESU’s dean’s list

Emporia State University named nearly 500 students named to dean’s list for spring 2016, including some students from the Tonganoxie area.
County residents on Barton’s highest list

Barton Community College in Great Bend has named 250 students to the president’s list for the spring 2016 semester. To qualify for this honor, students must have been enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours and maintained a grade point average of 4.0 on a 4.0 or “A” letter scale.
Kansas State University students graduate with honors

More than 480 Kansas State University students earned graduation honors with their May 2016 degrees, including four from Leavenworth County.
